Introducing: Diana Chard, RD

Halifax - Wellbeing Counselor

It was a bit of a meandering road that brought Diana to dietetics. After a degree in psychology, half a degree in graphic design, and working in management she entered into the Applied Human Nutrition/Dietetics program at Mount Saint Vincent University and graduated from the Integrated Internship program in 2010.

Since then, she has worked in Ontario as a public health dietitian with the primary program area of food security, and in weight mangement. Diana's current position as Wellbeing Counsellor at Mill Cove Sobeys combines aspects of her previous management experience with her nutrition knowledge. She's there full-time to help customers and staff make healthy choices.

Outside of her full-time employment, Diana is also a new volunteer member of the Dartmouth Community Health Board and is excited about working to help improve the health of Dartmouthians. She is also the author of the nutrition blog Bitemywords.com and is available for freelance nutrition writing.

What is your favorite place to find new recipes?

I love to cook and I'm always looking for new recipes to try. I have subscriptions to Bon Appetit and Chatelaine magazines. I also like to browse a number of websites for recipes. A few of my current favourites are: smittenkitchen.com, ohsheglows.com, and ambitiouskitchen.com. Flipping through cookbooks in my collection (or at the library) is also a great way to find new recipes.

“I feel happiest when…”

I'm running! Aside from the time I got heat stroke at collapsed during the Boston Marathon... Running is my drug of choice. I can almost always shake a bad mood by going for a run. It makes me feel fit and capable of nearly anything.

What is your next big goal or project?

I'm working on starting my own little business. I don't want to give away too much as it's just in the fledgling stages, but stay tuned for a new table coming to the Alderney Market (hopefully) soon!
