Where is your favourite place to find a new recipe?
I have a bit of a ‘cookbook’ problem! I love taking my cookbooks off of the shelves and finding a few new recipes to try every week. And of course, I follow a number of food bloggers who inspire my cooking.
What do you love most about your career?
I love how my career combines the science of human nutrition with the creativity of food and the social interaction with people. I honestly feel that one of my life purposes is to inspire people to eat more legumes! I know... sounds weird, but I have been passionate about plant-based proteins since I was a student at St.F.X.U., over 30 years ago! It is finally catching on now - I think people are moving towards meatless meals!
What is a proud moment of your career?
I am very proud to have been a co-founder of this network: Dietitians’ Network of Nova Scotia. Luke Corey and I met at a cafe over 10 years ago to discuss forming a network to increase communication among N.S. dietitians and raise public awareness of our profession. It has been wonderful to work with the core committee on this and I am excited to see the network grow and expand.
Tell us about a memorable adventure that you’ve experienced.
Right after I finished my internship I left to backpack around Europe and study French in Nice, France. What an adventure! A more recent ‘bucket list’ adventure was going to the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City for an intensive vegan cooking course in 2018. It was amazing!

What adventure do you dream of doing?
There are so many places I want to go! India, Africa, South America – all trips would have to include food as a highlight!

Where is your favourite place to be in Nova Scotia?
I love to be near and on the water! Micou’s island is close to where we live, I go there in all seasons. In the summer, I head there almost every day for a swim or to paddle board.
Any advice for new dietitians?
Stay curious! Never stop learning!
