Kelly Whalen completed her studies at Mount Saint Vincent University in 2014.  Kelly currently holds a position as a clinical dietitian in long term care.  In this role Kelly is responsible for the nutritional health of residents from two different care facilities in Nova Scotia.  Kelly has a special place in her heart for working with the residents, and is currently seeking a permanent career in this field.

Kelly is the owner of Balanced Proportions, a company offering nutrition counseling and consulting designed for real life. She is interested in helping people to achieve their own personal best, whether that best is losing 50 pounds, following a special diet, or running a marathon. She has two dietitians who do consulting with her company to help care for clients. She also is covering a maternity leave in private practice at Kinesis Health Associates.

Outside of clinical care and counselling, Kelly works as the Atlantic Regional Manager for Creative Sampling Solutions. She trains, and oversees a team of Nutrition and Brand Ambassadors in Nova Scotia. Spreading nutrition knowledge to the public with informative and delicious demonstrations in local retailers. While promoting a healthy lifestyle, Kelly practices what she preaches! She has worked as a BodyPump (weight training) instructor with Goodlife Fitness since 2011.

Kelly loves to volunteer her time to great causes. You may have seen her as the volunteer coordinator for the Pop Up Breakfast event between Nourish Nova Scotia and DNNS, or spinning her heart out and promoting Nutrition Month at the Spin4Kids event. When you can't find her working, or volunteering she is likely cooking up a storm for her loving family! Kelly continues to grow and learn with all nutrition has to offer.

A couple questions asked of Kelly:

What is your favorite place to find new recipes?

My Looneyspoons cookbook of course!

What is the best adventure you’ve been on?

Boston, Massachusetts. I went with the love of my life, Matthew where we went to Fenway for the first time to see the Red Sox play. We are huge sports nuts and caught a double header on a beautiful sunny day. We also saw all kinds of marine life at the aquarium, got to see the Boston Pops on July 4th (complete with fireworks), and ate so much fantastic food at faneuil hall - be still my heart! I got my first taste of how the American food system is different than ours, and learned a lot in my short time there. Best adventure yet, I cannot wait to go back.
