What is the best adventure you have been on?
My husband and I went on a Taste of Tuscany tour for our honeymoon! Our adventure included Rome, Sienna, Florence, Pisa, Orvieto and more. We cycled along the countryside, tasted the best Italian wines, made our own pasta & hunted for truffle mushrooms. It was a delicious adventure and I dream of exploring more of Europe to experience the beauty, culture and of course, the food!
What do you love most about your job?
The best part of my job is connecting with people in my community who are also committed to making it a healthy place to live. My passion for public health nutrition comes from my desire to make a positive impact on as many people as possible by creating environments that support health. There are so many food movement champions in Pictou County doing amazing work, and I love working with them and connecting them with others so we can all work together!
Where is your favourite food place in Nova Scotia?
There are so many amazing markets, restaurants and home kitchens that I love to visit in NS, so this is a very tough decision! While I love having family dinners with our two young children (3 & 6), it’s not always the most relaxing experience. It’s such a treat to have a nice, peaceful restaurant meal and our favourite spot here in Pictou County is The Bistro. Their mussels are to die for and they always have a delicious selection of classic entrees and feature dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. If you save room for dessert, you can’t go wrong with the chocolate pecan pie!
What is one tip you can share with future dietitians?
Be open to new possibilities and stepping outside the box. There are so many opportunities for dietitians within our profession and we are also very well equipped with transferable skills that open up a broad range of career paths.
“Success is not a straight line. It’s much more of a dance and being open to possibilities” Arianna Huffington.
