Nicole Marchand, RD

Nicole Marchand is a private-practice dietitian out of Halifax, Nova Scotia who offers one-on-one consulting and group programs, specializing in chronic disease prevention, treatment, and management. Nicole began in her career in 2012 as a digestive health specialist but after completing her Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine, has expanded into metabolic health – mainly Type 2 Diabetes, fatty liver disease, and heart disease, as well as mental health concerns – anxiety, depression, and ADHD.

Nicole takes a holistic approach to preventing and treating chronic disease – using both dietary and lifestyle changes to promote better health from the inside out. She’s always been an advocate for taking health into our own hands, and helps clients navigate their own wellness journey using an approach specific to their goals and needs.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?

As we know, lifestyle changes are difficult to make and maintain. One barrier to helping clients make change is that diet and lifestyle are still not strongly considered to be at the forefront of chronic disease onset in the western medical model. It seems to be a constant fight to help clients feel confident that the changes they make today will make a lasting impression on their long-term health outcomes.

Where is your favourite place to be in Nova Scotia

My favourite place to be in Nova Scotia is at the beach. I try to get to the beach as much as possible every summer, traveling across the province when I can to try out new spots. The weather this summer, unfortunately, has not been the best for beach days, but I still took advantage of the sun whenever possible.
