Plant-based eating! We’ve been hearing a lot about this, since the new Canada's Food Guide came out recently. Going cold-turkey (ok, I couldn’t resist ;-) and switching to a fully vegetarian diet may not be the best approach for everyone, so I usually encourage people to start with small changes, such as adding more plant-based protein sources into cooking. Check out this recipe from Lentil & Lamb Stuffed Eggplant . . . a scrumptious way to include more plant-based protein (lentils!) into a meal,

So, by now, we all know we need to get enough fibre in our diets to maintain good gut health, reduce disease risk, etc. Well, how do you get all that good stuff into your diet? Look no further than the ‘Fibre Queen’ home economist Mairlyn Smith, who is about to release her latest cookbook, “Peace, Love and Fibre”. Wish I had thought of this title!

Have you incorporated mindful eating concepts in your work with clients struggling with eating disorders, or disordered eating habits? The Center for Mindful Eating is offering a 2-part webinar Tues, June 25 and Tues, July 2nd, from dietitian Caroline Baerten, entitled: “Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating Habits: Finding balance through mindful eating”. Check out the link for more info on this event.
